Character overview

  • Appearance: A ratfolk (or Ysoki) — a bipedal, humanoid rat with warm auburn/orange fur, large rounded ears, prominent whiskers, and a long pink tail curling behind them. They have golden-yellow eyes with an alert, clever expression — this is clearly someone who misses nothing. Two long braided pigtails adorned with small green beads give a surprisingly charming, personality-filled look. The ratfolk also has cheek pouches for storing food.
  • Abilities: Proficient with firearms; skilled in various games of skill; knowledgeable in black powder production. Carries Alkenstar-Style Black Powder Firearm named Giselle and demonstrated its operation to Savah's armorer. Claimed to have helped build the weapon in a factory and can reconstruct one with assistance; capable of making black powder and ammunition himself. Spent the morning making bullets for Giselle and sought a repair Cerith Ferror and a reinforced stock for it at the Red Dog Smithy and Savah's Armory. Demonstrated Giselle at Junker's Edge, firing it and causing seagulls to take flight. Successfully opened a side door into Sandpoint Glassworks Showroom and wounded a Fucking Big Goblin in the Slaughter Room, fouling Alkenstar-Style Black Powder Firearm on a follow-up shot. Checked the hot furnace-side doors while tracking a fleeing goblin and killed Tsuto Kaijitsu with a clean shot down a crowded hallway. Inspected and repaired Cerith’s damaged metal body, stopping its purple blood from leaking. Esquik's proficiency with his firearm and ability to repair mechanical bodies make him a valuable asset in combat and support situations. His use of firearms has proven effective against Sinspawn and a Demon Priestess, showcasing his combat effectiveness and resilience in recovering quickly from paralysis. He also examined and was absorbed by a Small Clockwork Gift from Saba and inspected a malfunctioning sword, restoring it to extend into a whip-like cable. Recently returned from a date with Savah the blacksmith and declined a proposed exclusive supply deal from Dubral Bisky, having learned that Dubral Bisky controls organized crime in Sandpoint. Esquik has led into low tunnels, firing Giselle to kill Goblins and lobbed electrical bombs into groups, disintegrating one and electrocuting others. He provided covering fire during a bridge crossing and engaged Goblin Dogs, killing one with a blow from Giselle's stock and blasting another off a bridge. He understood the approaching goblin’s angry words when the others could not and returned fire during the fight with Bruthazmus, shooting the bugbear dead. His expertise extends to traps, as he examined a pressure plate at Thistletop, revealing its function, and located an invisible creature in the star-marked chamber. He assisted in bringing Nualia to Sheriff Hemlock and received a broken hammer from Cerith for repair. Esquik traveled with The Party toward Magnimar, fired a gunshot that struck a cluster of Goblins, and kept watch on Nualia during an encounter. He also assisted Ruby in burying dead rats at The Goblin Camp and identified himself to Justice Ironbriar as a deputy in Sandpoint’s service. At the farmhouse, Esquik carried a gun and grenades and helped defend the building against ghouls. During the first attack, Esquik disintegrated a ghoul, reloaded from cover, and was struck by another ghoul’s claws. Esquik later shot one ghoul without bringing it down, smashed another’s head, and fired twice at a prone ghoul that survived. During a pause in the attacks, Esquik helped Lucien rig a spiked plank above a window. In the next attack, Esquik shot a ghoul and nearly brought it down, then threw a grenade that caught nearby creatures in the blast. Esquik later shot one ghoul down and struck another without finishing it. When ghouls disguised as scarecrows attacked, Esquik reloaded, stunned an attacker outside the window, and fired at the creature attacking Ruby. A ghoul grabbed Esquik by the back of the neck; Ruby killed it. Esquik then shot another ghoul down and later landed another shot.
  • Allegiance: From Korvosa. Recently deputized by Sheriff Hemlock, receiving five silver per day while Belor Hemlock is away.
  • Location: Participated in events at a fair; stayed at the Rusty Dragon in Sandpoint. Stayed downstairs to rest after returning to the Rusty Dragon. Patrolled with Lucien, visited the Pixie's Kitten, drank whiskey, panicked and fled the brothel, and was carried back to the Rusty Dragon by Ruby. Engaged in various encounters including a cathedral, Prison Chamber, burial chamber, and skull-lined chamber. He prepared and positioned black-powder pyrotechnic effects for Lucien’s Theater performance and set the explosions for the climax. He accepted Saba’s invitations to The Theater and to dinner and later accompanied her home. He offered to help Ameiko with pension papers and contracts, including funeral arrangements and business papers for Sandpoint Glassworks. Accompanied Lucien on a late-night patrol to the Old Light and noticed a spectral hand on Finley that appeared to be holding something. Attempted to follow a trail for a missing sword but found no usable tracks after fifteen days. Esquik claimed the goblin’s bladed wedding dress from its corpse and recognized a broken hammer-like object as a Dwarven Hammer Gun from Dongun Hold, which may be restorable with time, tools, and forge work. He was born in Absalom and carries a crossbow and sword, along with unusual weaponry likely in his luggage. At the farmhouse, they explored upstairs, returned to the downstairs room, and lined up their grenades. During a pause in the attacks, Esquik helped Lucien rig a spiked plank above a window.
  • Resources: Carries an Alkenstar-Style Black Powder Firearm known as a “staff of fire”; won a jar of Varisian wine; has assorted fruit; manufactures his own black powder and possesses a few bombs. Proposed an exclusive arrangement to supply black powder while The Armorer worked on reproducing the ignition mechanism. Actively upgrades his firearm in town and has connections to the local ysoki community involved in refuse routes. A man from Korvosa is coming to town asking about Esquik’s new invention. His firearm helped identify the hammer gun’s saltpetre-and-sulphur construction, and he possesses the bladed wedding dress. Noted for his willingness to take discarded items. Recently accepted dangerous flower liquor in Magnimar and inspected a hidden cart with Raz, finding firearm-copying parts. He testified at Nualia’s trial about using lethal force against her to prevent destruction of Sandpoint and reported accusations against Saba Piveniki regarding His Firearm.
