Character overview
Ven Vinder is the proprietor of Sandpoint's general store, a broad and protective man whose commercial instincts are entirely sound and whose paternal instincts are considerably more complicated. He runs his shop with the proprietary satisfaction of someone who has built something from the ground up and intends to pass it on in better condition than he found it. Ven is regarded in Sandpoint as a fair if not especially flexible businessman whose word is good and whose prices are honest. His reputation in the purely commercial sense is largely uncomplicated. His reputation as a father is a different matter entirely, shaped primarily by a ferocious and not always proportionate protectiveness toward his daughters, Katrine and Shayliss, that the town finds simultaneously understandable and occasionally exhausting, and that has generated more than one scene in his store that the other customers present have pretended very hard not to witness. Ven, known for his imposing physical presence, is nearly seven feet tall and weighs two hundred pounds of muscle. In addition to his general store, he operates a stall at the Sandpoint festival, where he specializes in cheese-related goods and is recommended for quality offerings. During market browsing, he was directed by Bilivar Wheen to Esquik. His festival stall is located among other food and produce stands, and he is present and approachable during the festival crowd. Ven is currently searching for his daughter after discovering her hidden in the basement, which has led to concerns about her behavior and its impact on his family. He is now also a key figure in the investigation of his daughter's murder, with friends providing him an alibi. His emotional state may influence the community's response to the crime. Threat/Value rating: medium due to his physical strength and protective nature toward his family, as well as potential for violence and emotional instability following his daughter’s death.
