He has the Valdemar family's practical orientation and their reputation for straightforward dealing, applied in his case to the specific and demanding business of building and maintaining the vessels that connect Sandpointto the broader world of the Varisian Gulf. He is well regarded by the men who work under him in the way that managers are when they know the work well enough to be respected rather than merely obeyed, and he carries the Valdemar name with the unpretentious solidity that has always been that family's particular contribution to Sandpoint's civic character. He is the grandson of Ethram Valdemar.
