Character overview

Rasvantin Torvashti, known as Raz, possesses a lean, acrobatic build with sun-kissed olive skin and a mischievous glint in his amber eyes. He wears a weathered, navy-blue nautical coat over a faded, gold-trimmed silk vest—a relic from his circus days—leaving his forearms exposed to reveal ink-black astrological charts tattooed across his skin. His dark hair is tied back in a loose queue, held by a silver ring. Around his waist is a wide leather utility belt holding a brass sextant, several rolled parchments, and a specialized hook for his prized Starknife, which gleams with a polished, mirrored finish.
The quintessential "charismatic rogue," Raz is a whirlwind of positive energy and social grace. He is an expert at reading a room, using his natural charm to bridge the gap between slum-lords and high-court officials. While he maintains a cheerful, breezy disposition, it often masks a deep-seated restlessness and a scholarly obsession with the immutable nature of fate. He loves a good gamble, a fine bottle of wine, and the thrill of a perfect throw, but he dislikes stagnation and the feeling of being "blind" to the stars.

Born in Magnimar, Raz is a long-time resident of Sandpoint, a former sailor who now serves as a deputy under Belor Hemlock. He has cousins and has been seen as a forthright Varisian-looking stranger and occasional companion to a party. He was observed peering at the Kaijitsu Glassworks when first encountered. He carried lockpicks, which he broke while attempting to access a side door, and he used his Starknife to strike a Fucking Big Goblin. Raz claimed that the stars had led him to investigate a friend's death and chose to stay behind Ruby when allowed to join The Party. He demonstrated combat lethality by killing at least one goblin in the Showroom and recognized that the attackers came from different Goblin Tribes. Raz studied Fucking Big Goblin's unarmed fighting style before defeating it and retrieved a book of fighting diagrams from its body. He identified the revealed passage as a type of smuggling tunnel common to Sandpoint and assisted Lucien in opening a concealed panel, briefly receiving and then returning a deputy badge.

In his role as a torch-bearing supporter and front-line combatant, Raz provided torchlight for the party in the caves. He was equipped with a light mace and threw a Starknife before switching to his mace. While he studied a Sinspawn, he did not find any special weakness but recognized the priestess as a demon. He identified the nature of a Twisted Iron Wand after others failed and noted a mutant goblin as an unnatural creature twisted by Lamashtu, observing the acid stink of its vomit. Raz tumbled through a Sinspawn’s space and wounded it from the rear, and he sampled recently stored wine alongside Lucien.

His recent involvement in the exploration beneath Sandpoint Glassworks has strengthened his reputation in Sandpoint, where he is credited as invaluable by Ruby. During a meeting with Mayor Deberin to discuss findings about the basements and tunnels, he retrieved a Tsuto Kaijitsu's Tsuto's Journal. He took the first bath at the Rusty Dragon, enjoying hot water and Lucien’s wine, and assisted in Lucien’s Theater performance. Raz arranged to transfer returning magic from a Dagger to his Starknife.

Raz has recently gone from the Rusty Dragon to the Fat Man's Feedback with a group. He discussed gaining control of the Pixie's Kitten with Dubral Bisky and persuading Kaia Terracini to sell or arranging for a Ledger to be "found." He informed Lucien about a business prospect and relayed Dubral Bisky's scheme outside The Tavern. Raz accompanied Lucien on a night patrol through Sandpoint, acknowledging being made "a deputy junior." He returned to the Rusty Dragon after patrol and was present when Sheriff Hemlock accepted The Group's help for Thistletop, acknowledging Raz's assistance; the party received 30 gold.

In a recent encounter, Raz drew a wand to shock a Mutated Goblin-Like Creature with electricity and subsequently closed in to kill another goblin in melee. He declared "By myself." and stated he would "finish off the guy on the bridge." Despite failing a Fortitude save against goblin pox and becoming sick, he pressed forward and helped hold the far end of the bridge during the assault. Raz recovered from goblin pox and fought from the rear during a courtyard engagement. He targeted and struck the warchief Ripnugget in the throne room, identifying a tentacled creature in the lower Cavern and recognizing its implanted eggs as a parasite. He used a Starknife against the creature, dealing slight harm, and learned that the creature could drain blood from victims to heal itself.

Raz recognized Bruthazmus by a pendant of elven ears. He is skilled in combat, capable of tracking invisible foes, and knowledgeable about fiendish creatures. He is part of a party exploring Thistletop and possesses Nualia’s Journal, which provides insights into the nature of the threats faced by The Party, including the vulnerabilities of Fiendish Hounds. Raz seeks vengeance for his friend's death, having identified the killer from Nualia’s Journal. He confronted Nualia at Thistletop, attempting to reason with her, wounding her, and ultimately knocking her unconscious. He retrieved the unconscious Lucien from the greater barghest’s chamber and struck the fiend before it was sealed inside. Raz brought Nualia to Sheriff Hemlock, advocating for her to face justice instead of a mob, and informed Hemlock that while the goblins had been dealt with, Nualia was not the end of the danger. He inquired of Lucien what he had seen near death, to which Lucien replied he had seen only blackness. Raz departed Sandpoint with The Party to escort Nualia to Magnimar.

Raz grew up in Magnimar. He demonstrates generosity by sharing rations with River Hargreave and engages in combat against goblin troops, successfully defeating several. He led a group to an expensive Varisian restaurant in Magnimar and showed Esquik old haunts. He identified a concealed cart from Sandpoint with a Sczarni mark and sold lingering gear before testifying at Nualia’s trial. Raz's testimony linked him to the investigation of his cousin Delek’s killer, and he claimed responsibility for Nualia's survival, mentioning the potential for destiny to change. His circus contacts provided a warning to Saba Piveniki and offered assistance for her escape from Magnimar. He warns companions about the presence of Hellknights of the Order of the Nail.

Rasvantin defended a farmhouse alongside the others and carried an amulet that he used to protect them. During preparations, he painted religious symbols on a doorway. In the first assault, he injured a ghoul; another weakened as it crossed his ward. He later killed the last ghoul of that attack, shut a window, and moved toward the room’s center. During the pause, he placed another religious charm at a barricaded doorway.
As the next wave arrived, Rasvantin moved into a gap in the defense to keep enemies from getting behind the group and surrounding Lucien. He used his amulet to protect Ruby, struck the ghoul restraining Eliza until it died, and later attacked a ghoul emerging from the chimney. A scarecrow struck him, and another knocked him down. His attempt to tie its shoelaces together failed, and he stood. He and Lucien saw ghouls fleeing the house. During the fight with the arriving rescuers, Rasvantin knocked a ghoul prone and again used his amulet to protect Lucien. After moving to flank an enemy, he fought alongside the others until Ruby killed the last ghoul.
