Kestrel is an upbeat and lively elf champion of Sarenrae and a Knight of Lastwall, inclined to look on the bright side of a hard situation.
Tall, she camped among carefully maintained white-and-gold tents, tending their pennants so they stayed properly set in the wind. Her companions’ equipment bore the symbols of Iomedae and Sarenrae. She studied regional maps in her tent and traveled at the rear of the Knights’ column, fully armed and armored.
Acting on behalf of Lord Ulthun II, Kestrel attended Torrentmoot to seek an alliance with Belkzen. She acknowledged the terrible history between the Knights and the orcs, but argued that cooperation was necessary against the awakened Whispering Tyrant. She said the orcs had grown quiet and distrustful whenever she approached, and revealed that she had lost two good friends fighting Pelisen. She sought coordination so those facing the same enemy could communicate attacks and retreats, and welcomed help from someone with better people skills. Kestrel praised Gurnak for helping an endangered child and offered to carry a message to his parents. She followed Lord Uldrun to Absalom after he escaped Lastwall, where she conducts diplomatic efforts, but felt compelled to return nearer the battlefield, expecting something significant to happen. She planned to travel into the Gravelands to serve alongside the Knights of Lastwall. She spoke of support for Lastwall from Iomedae’s church and other benevolent faiths, the unknown patron of the Crimson Knights, Kyonin’s invitations, the danger of opening another front, and the Razmiran delegation. Asked about missing scouts, she said the orc scouts did not report to her and that she knew nothing. She told Fizzik that Goblins had helped Lord Ulthun II escape when the Whispering Tyrant destroyed a city with radiant fire, remained with him in Absalom, and learned to harness their violent tendencies; she added that most goblins were victims of their circumstances. When Vanna identified herself as Druman, Kestrel expressed respect for Druma’s aid against Tar-Baphon and for keeping its lands comparatively safe.
Kestrel stated that the surviving Knights did not always have enough people and had barely contained Tar-Baphon’s armies in the Gravelands. They sought allies against him and were interested in the Black Jackets’ training and in support and supplies from Druma. She offered Klein a silver scimitar recovered from a former squire, which he accepted for the Black Jackets’ captains. On the way to an overlook, she pointed out distant aurochs and recalled The Party’s earlier hunt. When Fizzik praised the Knights, she suggested he might join them, though she doubted he would enjoy their disciplined life, and pointed out knights wearing feathered helmets.
