Character overview
Solara — Keenly interested in magic; willing to engage with others, though her timing can be awkward.
Solara comes from a family that oversees a small holding and arrived in place of her sister, unprepared for social gatherings. Better dressed than many at Torrentmoot, she travels with Apollo, a manifestation of the apparition that supplies her power. She postponed setting up her tent to find food, then spoke with Kestrel of the Knights of Lastwall and offered to help her approach the orcs. At the dumbbell challenge, Solara noticed its shifting balance and the successful lifter’s smooth technique but kept that observation to herself; she then lifted and balanced the weight using good technique. She joined Bonesnap’s aurochs hunt, contributing small talk and admitting she had only patted an aurochs before. On the second day, she repeatedly attempted conversation at inconvenient moments. During the night attack by burrowing creatures, disorienting magic from Solara was resisted, and acid splashed her. On the third day, she and Vanna alerted the herd while approaching an aurochs. Solara sent Apollo forward, cast stronger magic that the beast resisted, and was later trampled near the cliff. She returned to Torrentmoot with The Group, then left to pursue her own activities. Her experiences there began to shape her understanding of social dynamics and her own capabilities in conversation and magic.
Solara travels with the party and joined it in fighting off flood ghouls, then joined Ardax’s guards against creatures emerging through the rain. At the beginning of the day, she cast protective magic. During the fight, she roused the nearby ground, shielded herself, ran ahead, used nature magic, and directed attacks at the wizard. After the wizard was killed, she helped heal the wounded. At camp, she helped organize the attendees, then left the people to help Gurnak manage the animals. She knew the battlefields within Belkzen and the location of Cleft Head Hold’s fort, and estimated the journey would take about four days if nothing stopped the caravan. At the ravine, she helped Vanna search for a ford. Her sister, a Nyad, was missing. Watching the water, Solara spotted humanoid skin beneath it, asked Vanna about it, and recognized the creatures as skin slugs. In the fight, her eyes and Apollo’s glowed the same color as she drew on her power. She formed sunlight into a ribbon and used it against a skinslough, sustained her magic, attempted to trip the creature, and cut it with sunlight. The slug covered her body in its skin, made her sick, and struck her. After Gurnak froze it, Solara walked downstream and retched; Gurnak examined her wounds while she remained sick. She later helped search for Segrek’s missing pendant and helped Gurnak support his claim that soothing herbal tea could help Segrek maintain control.
