Arika Avertin

Arika Avertin is Alma's daughter and Casp's sister, a young woman who works alongside her mother at Sandpoint Savories and carries the family's loss with the particular weight that siblings of the dead bear differently from parents — less the grief of someone whose child was taken and more the quiet disorientation of someone whose understanding of the world was fundamentally revised by what happened to a person they grew up beside.

Biography

She is warm and capable in the daily running of the bakery, present in all the ways that matter, and if there is something behind her eyes that was not there before the Late Unpleasantness it is not something she invites comment on. Sandpoint is tactful enough not to offer any. Arika is also sister to Aneka. As a baker's assistant at Sandpoint Savories, she has emerged into the Sandpoint market with freshly baked cakes and other goods. During a recent celebration, she presented baked goods to the party and expressed her gratitude for their protection of the town.
