She has her mother's gift for making people feel welcome without making a production of it, and the easy rhythm the two of them have developed behind the counter over the years is the kind that only comes from genuine affection and long familiarity. She is one of those people who is deeply embedded in the texture of a small town's daily life — not dramatic, not remarkable in any way that would make a good story, but the kind of consistently kind and reliably present that a community quietly depends on and would feel acutely in the absence of. She's also sister to Arika Avertin.
