Session recap
The dense Fangwood loomed around us, its shadows hiding both danger and opportunity. The aroma of a cooking stew wafted through the air, drawing our attention to a small Main Camp nestled in a gulch, where several hobgoblins joked among themselves, blissfully unaware of our presence.
As Wren tracked through the underbrush, we seized the chance to set up an ambush. Bruneg charged in, smashing one Hobgoblin Scout with his morningstar, while Wren marked the wounded foe and fired an arrow, though her taunt fell flat. Arsène swiftly finished off the injured hobgoblin, and Gundugar Herdtender hurled a firebomb at a blond-haired hobgoblin, igniting it. Finnetharyn Fimbleshanks followed up with a magical attack, but the panicked blond hobgoblin protested our interference with his dinner before retaliating with a dagger. Another hobgoblin charged at Bruneg, accusing him of ruining the stew and managed to cut him. Wren, recognizing the blond hobgoblin’s wig, shouted, “That’s not your real hair!” before shooting him down. With the last of the hobgoblins defeated, we searched the camp, recovering a Wig of Holding and finding little else of value.
After a brief respite, we set up camp for the night, taking turns on watch. Wren’s watch passed without incident, but during Finnetharyn’s turn, he spotted two humans in grey and brown ponchos. One pointed toward our camp while the other aimed a bow, mimicking an owl call. Gundugar responded in kind, amusing the stranger, who approached and recognized us as the Fangwood Six. He warned us of hobgoblins and a dragon at Fort Trevalay, advising us to avoid The Road patrolled by hobgoblins. After the ranger vanished into the forest, we decided to head east toward the fey-held fort instead of the northern fort with the dragon.
By midday, we reached the fort, where music and revelry mingled with screams of joy. Those who understood Fey caught snippets of revelers shouting about wine and cooking. Arsène crept closer and spotted three Korreds competing to throw stones. We devised a plan to lure them out, with Finnetharyn acting as bait. When our conversation failed to draw them far enough, we launched our attack. Arsène opened fire, and Finnetharyn unleashed a debilitating spell. The Korreds retaliated, hurling rocks and ensnaring us with their animated hair. Wren identified their vulnerabilities, while Gundugar bombed one korred, and Bruneg charged into the fray. The battle raged on, and we gradually gained the upper hand, managing to dispatch several of the fey creatures.
After clearing the courtyard, we found evidence of hobgoblin corpses hanging from gibbets, a grim reminder of the fort's dark history. We pressed on through the breach into the fort itself, where we encountered a redcap armed with a scythe. Bruneg engaged it, but it retaliated fiercely, injuring both him and Vendel Coldblade. Wren identified its dangerous traits, and we coordinated our attacks, ultimately bringing the creature down after a fierce struggle. With the redcap defeated, we searched the room and discovered flayed hobgoblin skin and a cold iron spear hidden behind a weapon rack, which Gundugar took custody of. We prepared to continue our quest in the treacherous Fangwood.
