Session recap

The air was thick with the sickening stench of xulgaths as The Party approached the Cradle of Stone, guided by Aubrin's reminder of the caves to the north. Seeking a more permanent shelter for their refugees, they recalled the dangers lurking within. Finnetharyn Fimbleshanks spotted shrieker mushrooms at the entrance, prompting The Party to take a narrow side path to avoid alarming the creatures. Bruneg inspected the route for traps and found none, deducing that the xulgaths likely used this path to evade detection.

Upon entering a Crystal-Lit Chamber, The Party was met with three xulgath warriors, igniting a fierce battle. Gundugar Herdtender consumed a Quicksilver Mutagen and hurled a bomb at one foe, while Wren loosed a deadly arrow into an already wounded xulgath. Arsène flanked the same enemy, swiftly dispatching it. Bruneg struck another xulgath, and Finnetharyn bolstered his allies with magic and song. The tide of battle shifted as more xulgaths approached, prompting Gundugar to throw another bomb, and Wren identified a larger, shinier-scaled xulgath as a spellcaster. The fight intensified, with Wren shooting down the sorcerer, securing the chamber for The Party.

After regrouping, they discovered a Giant Violet Crystal suspended in a cradle of roots, a religious object for the xulgaths, which they chose to leave behind. Further exploration led them to another chamber adorned with reptilian faces and a bowl of ashes. Finnetharyn found shiny objects among the remains, including a Potency Crystal and boots for Arsène. As Wren crept toward a side room, she spotted xulgaths preparing an ambush. With a warning to her companions, combat erupted. Wren intimidated one foe and opened fire, while Gundugar unleashed Alchemist's Fire into the cramped space, igniting several enemies. The battle expanded as Giant Monitor Lizards joined the fray. Finnetharyn shifted tactics, using lightning against the lizards, while Vendel conjured a magical weapon. The lizards proved formidable, with one seizing Bruneg and another critically biting Finnetharyn. The Party fought valiantly, with Wren recalling the lizards' dangerous abilities and successfully killing one. However, the ambush continued as more xulgaths and lizards attacked, leading to a chaotic melee.

After a series of intense exchanges, The Party managed to eliminate the remaining threats, with Finnetharyn's magic proving decisive. They explored a larger cavern, identifying it as a xulgath Nesting Area, where they found more treasures, including Magical Hide Armor. Approaching a Multicolored Crystal Cave, they encountered Spearfrogs, leading to another skirmish that ended quickly. However, they heard voices shouting in Sakvroth, warning of intruders. Combat resumed with a xulgath warrior charging in, followed by a larger xulgath leader and a spellcaster. The leader's ferocity was palpable, but The Party held their ground. Wren and Arsène coordinated their attacks, while Gundugar and Bruneg pressed forward. The battle reached a climax as the leader fell to a combination of Wren's arrows and Finnetharyn's magic, ending the immediate threat.

In the aftermath, The Party gathered their spoils, including a Breastplate and a +1 Striking Weapon, while Vendel tended to their wounds. They noted the chamber's cool, mist-filled atmosphere, with a crystal globe hanging from the ceiling and a bubbling fountain of clear water. As they surveyed their surroundings, they spotted a black mound of bones and a passage leading deeper underground.
