Session recap
The flickering campfire cast shadows on the faces of The Party as they gathered, somberly discussing the fate of Mira, the girl they had rescued. Concern for her father, Harald, weighed heavily on their minds, leading them to decide to return her to Camp instead of pressing on toward Gristledown. Upon their return, Jet, the innkeeper, took charge of Mira, ensuring she was fed and cared for. As Mira recounted her harrowing tale of being hunted by Surviving Mitflit and saved by a Wolf Mother, The Party recalled their own Surviving Mitflit and resolved to use it to uncover the tribe's treasure hoard.
Guided by the captive, The Party trekked through the forest for several hours until they arrived at an abandoned cabin. Surviving Mitflit claimed it was the treasure's location but requested to be untied. After questioning it, they learned that the cabin had been neglected and that its previous owner was a tall, foul-smelling figure who had left to hunt. The Party debated their options regarding Surviving Mitflit and ultimately decided to release it with a warning to stay away from their Camp. As they began their investigation of the cabin, Wren attempted to read the tracks nearby but inadvertently disturbed the signs. The old, drying hides suggested the cabin had been long abandoned. Suddenly, Wren triggered a concealed bear trap, alerting the others to the dangers that lay ahead. Finnetharyn heard movement from inside the cabin, prompting Arsène to knock on the door. A rasping voice threatened them, and a fight erupted.
A leopard, identified as Pilla, Kelloch's animal companion, leaped from the trees, attacking Finnetharyn. Wren recognized the leopard and realized that Kelloch had not been seen for over a month. Despite attempts to calm Pilla, the leopard continued to see The Party as prey. As the battle escalated, Kelloch, now an undead creature, emerged from the cabin, attacking Bruneg and draining his strength. The Party fought valiantly, with Vendel restoring Bruneg and Finnetharyn using magic to keep Kelloch at bay. After a fierce struggle, The Party managed to defeat Pilla and then turned their attention to Kelloch. Gundugar set him ablaze, and with a final coordinated effort, they brought him down. As the undead threat ended, The Party searched the cabin, uncovering weapons, supplies, and a Pair Of Marching Boots that enhanced travel. With their haul in hand, they returned to Camp and began to fortify their position.
The next day, The Party set out for Gristledown, only to find the logging hamlet in ruins, its buildings recently destroyed. Bloodstains marked the ground, and tracks indicated that raiders had driven the townsfolk toward a Mass Grave. Wren discovered the skinned body of the elder nailed to a wall, a grim warning from the Ironfang Legion. As they approached the grave, four blood-covered skeletons clawed their way out, accompanied by a floating horror made of skin. The ensuing battle was fierce, with The Party using their skills to combat the undead. Wren opened the fight with arrows, while Vendel unleashed waves of positive energy. The Party worked together, discovering that acid was effective against the skeletons, and ultimately defeated the undead threat. After the battle, they scavenged the ruins for supplies, finding a magical hand and a Wooden Holy Symbol Of Erastil.
As they continued their search, they followed the raiders' tracks, which led them to a dark stretch of forest where they encountered a spiderlike creature claiming the rangers' hideout as its home. The creature, wary of The Party, offered them the rangers' belongings but insisted it would not leave its home. Wren used her ranger ally-call to announce their presence, and Bruneg cautiously entered the cabin, discovering maps and a message indicating the rangers had been recalled to Fort Trevalay. With the ranger papers in hand and no further pressing need to explore, The Party concluded their expedition, leaving the creature in possession of the hideout. As they returned to Camp, they prepared for whatever challenges lay ahead.
