Session recap

The air crackled with tension as hobgoblins poured from a newly appeared magical stone tower, igniting Phaendar in chaos. The party, now known for their valor, led over twenty survivors toward Fender's Bridge, seeking refuge in the Fangwood. Upon arrival, they found the remnants of a fierce battle, scattered corpses marking the desperate stand of townsfolk against the invaders.

As they assessed their situation, a neglected repair crane caught Bruneg's eye. He determined it could not reach the hobgoblins directly but could collapse the bridge by smashing its supports. Meanwhile, Wren stealthily approached a nearby construction shed, where two drunken hobgoblins lay asleep among their loot. With a swift strike, Wren and Arsène dispatched the foes, securing the shed and salvaging valuable equipment and bridge plans. Armed with the plans, the party set an ambush for the hobgoblins, drawing them in with a thrown bottle. The cautious hobgoblins commanded his troops to advance, prompting Finnetharyn to begin a magical performance to bolster his allies. The battle erupted as the hobgoblin captain engaged Bruneg, while Wren shot down a frightened recruit.

The fight escalated with Gundugar unleashing fire upon the enemy and Bruneg landing devastating blows on the captain. Arsène maneuvered behind enemy lines, taking down another hobgoblin, while Wren attempted to intimidate the captain. The chaos peaked when the captain drank a potion to regain strength, but Bruneg retaliated fiercely, ultimately killing the officer. With the remaining hobgoblins defeated, the survivors rushed across the bridge, disappearing into the forest as the party quickly gathered weapons and valuables before a new wave of hobgoblins could arrive. Just as the new threat emerged from Phaendar, the party operated the crane, collapsing the bridge in the nick of time. They fled into the Fangwood with the refugees, setting up camp where Aubrin the Green, despite her injuries, expressed gratitude and requested the party lead the survivors in their time of need.

The party divided the refugees into teams for various tasks, with Wren leading a gathering group, Bruneg overseeing watch duties, and others managing hunting and crafting. As the first day passed, morale dipped due to the lack of shelter, prompting the party to sort through their salvaged items, identifying several magical artifacts and personal keepsakes. The next day, they ventured into the Fangwood in search of more survivors and resources, encountering an elderly hermit who requested help with timber, rewarding them with food and establishing a future trading relationship. However, the hermit mistook Wren for Arden, a local hunter, and mentioned he had not seen him in weeks. Continuing their exploration, they met Harald, a frantic militiaman searching for his daughter, Mira. Despite their reassurances, he refused to stop looking and ran off toward the camp. The party then discovered the remains of an abandoned farm, salvaging edible apples before being attacked by a swarm of venomous wasps. They fought back, using fire and magic to eliminate the threat, and afterward, Arsène uncovered hidden valuables in the ruins.

With their supplies growing, the party prepared to face the challenges ahead, determined to protect the refugees and uncover the fate of those still missing in the chaos.
