Cirieo was discovered cooking in the kitchen of a reclaimed fort, utilizing a crude crutch made from a broken table board, which he claimed he needed only to navigate the kitchen. He offered sandwiches, inspecting them for any signs of goblin or human meat, and switched to offering apples when the sandwiches appeared safe. He recounted the attack on the fort, revealing that the bog dragon had destroyed a wall with acid and was accompanied by approximately two dozen members of the Ironfang Legion. In the course of defending himself, he managed to shoot an arrow that penetrated the dragon's scales, although it ultimately took his leg. He described the fate of the other Chernasardo Rangers, expressing hope for their survival elsewhere, and stated that he regarded himself as the highest-ranking ranger at the reclaimed fort since he believed he was the only one left. Hearing about survivors heading toward Fort Nunder brought him relief, especially at the prospect of encountering a surgeon. Cirieo had previously objected to Fangwood Six taking over the fort, claiming to be its only remaining ranger. He expressed conditional acceptance of their presence in exchange for the welcoming of refugees and the repair of the fort. He narrated the tale of a ghost, a posh merchant with a goatee, who had perished when a tower collapsed, and he made arrangements to communicate Fangwood Six's offer to the upstairs Koryad before they left. Having been rescued at Forderstein, Cirieo told Fangwood Six about a secret vault in the captured fort, prompting the party to search the fort for the entrance to that vault.
