NPC overview
Aubrin the Green is in her early thirties, a retired Chernasardo Ranger turned cleric of Cayden Cailean, and she is one of the most recognizable people in Phaendar—not because she holds any official position, but because the best parties tend to happen wherever she is. She is foulmouthed, warm-hearted, vivacious, and clever, and she has an inexhaustible supply of tall tales from her adventuring years that grow slightly more embellished each time she tells them. Most people in the area owe her a favor or a cold drink, and she collects neither with any particular urgency.
Her path to Phaendar was not a simple one. Growing up on a small farm in Nirmathas, she left home at sixteen after a fierce argument with her father about her future and spent years honing her skills in the Fangwood before earning a place among the Chernasardo Rangers. She eventually ventured beyond Nirmathas entirely until a nest of ankhegs on a desolate plain ended her wider travels—the third creature in the nest sprayed acid into her face, and though her magic eventually removed the scars, her vision was never fully restored. She returned to Nirmathas, settled in Phaendar, and interpreted this as a sign from Cayden Cailean that she was exactly where she was supposed to be.
Her damaged vision means she can see clearly only to about ten feet, with targets beyond that increasingly blurred. She has adapted to this entirely and refuses to let it slow her down, though she favors fighting at range with a bow rather than engaging in melee combat when possible. Aubrin the Green tends a small hops garden on the edge of town and presides over the Riverwood Shrine when needed, quietly becoming the kind of person the whole community leans on—not as a leader exactly, but as the steady, laughing presence that makes hard times easier to bear.
During a festival at the Taproot Inn, Aubrin the Green captivated the crowd with a raucous story, invoking Cayden mid-toast before being struck down by a ballista bolt, resulting in a severe chest wound. After collapsing, she remained alive, stabilized by her companions after the attack. In the aftermath, she took on a leadership role among the refugees, organizing and directing their efforts while recovering from her injuries. After the Fahrak Camp was cleared, Aubrin the Green gathered Wren, Gundugar, Bruneg, and other Camp leaders to lay out three priorities: make the surrounding Fangwood safe, learn more about the Ironfang Legion and its plans, and locate the missing Chernasardo Rangers. She identified Fort Trevalay as the largest hidden ranger fort north of The Cave and advised the party to watch for strange animal activity while attempting to contact those forts.
