About Molthuni Army

Faction overview

The Molthuni Army is everything Nirmathas is not — disciplined, hierarchical, and relentless. Soldiers live by a strict schedule of training, eating, sleeping, and socializing, and the chain of command is followed without question. The army is led by nine general lords who also govern Molthune's provinces, with the most battle-hardened among them assigned to the front lines along the Nirmathi border — a posting that carries enormous prestige. In battle, the Molthuni prefer to strike hard and with precision, never attacking without a clear objective. Infantry charge first behind their shields while battle-casters rain spells over their heads, coordinated by color-coded signal banners. They prefer daylight engagements, and on the rare occasions they fight at night, they use alchemical flares fired from ballistae to flood the battlefield with orange light.
What makes the Molthuni Army particularly formidable is its practicality. It accepts foreigners, hobgoblins, centaurs, lawful lycanthropes, and even the occasional naga into specialized units — the army cares about results, not bloodlines. Laborers seeking Molthuni citizenship can earn it through five years of military service, meaning many of the soldiers marching toward Nirmathas once worked the very farms they now march past. The army also operates under strict rules of conduct: Molthuni soldiers do not harm noncombatants, and prisoners of war are treated well and ransomed back rather than executed.

The Molthuni Army fields legions and supplements them by hiring mercenary companies, ensuring a robust presence in various conflicts. During a scouting mission in Phaendar, no Molthuni Army flags were visible; the occupying force consisted of Ironfang Legion operating without the usual Molthuni legions. To a Nirmathi, this doesn't make them any less of an enemy — it just makes them a more dangerous one.

The Molthuni are also distinguished by their morals. An account by Keroin describes a confrontation involving Emolzioni, a Molthuni fort commander, who threatened to court-martial a Fahrak leader. This confrontation ended tragically when Emolzioni was stabbed through the eye, and the surrounding guards were slaughtered, allowing the Hobgoblin leader to flee into the Fangwood.
