About Canopy Trolls

Faction overview

Canopy Trolls are a type of troll described as smaller than normal trolls that live atop trees and drop onto two-footed prey; they travel in packs. Herge warned The Party the forest to the west smelled of trolls and specifically named Canopy Trolls, saying they live in the canopy, are smaller than true trolls, travel in a couple of nearby packs, and drop from above onto bipeds. Later, Fangwood Six warned the camp about nearby Canopy Trolls that hide above trails and drop on people. Canopy Trolls are smaller than humans and are commonly found in the western Fangwood. A Chernasardo Ranger has advised caution regarding their presence when traveling toward the western Fort.
Trolls inhabit the area between the hunting grounds and Fort Nunder, leaving large barefoot tracks and overhunting the surrounding land. The trolls occupied the fort and maintained a gambling area with gold, a chess-and-poker game, and a magical wand used as a table leg. Several trolls occupy the ruined Fort, where they argue and threaten intruders. The trolls had overhunted the surrounding wilderness, resulting in a scarcity of animals larger than rabbits. Their former hunting grounds showed marks from giant stag beetles, which had begun breaking open trees for smaller insects due to the lack of prey. They possess regenerative abilities, which are halted by fire or electricity. Their long reach allows them to strike at openings around rubble and other obstacles. The trolls attacked a group at the fort’s entrance, grabbing one member, battering another, and pressing through the broken gateway. Fangwood Six used fire to wound them, resulting in one troll collapsing from lingering flames while the others fell. A troll woman emerged carrying a magic wand and agreed to leave the fort in exchange for time to collect her belongings. She revealed that Her Father had taken a hobgoblin contract to capture Fort Nunder, wrecked it, and lost his face to a dragon and its druid ally. The trolls had since killed Ironfang Legion who approached the fort. She provided Arsène with a pair of gloves later identified as apprentice cheating gloves, collected several wands, and departed. The party eliminated the fort’s trolls and trollhounds, then searched the fort, discovering a troll nest and a room with a strong odor of troll sweat.
