Character overview

A stout, solidly built dwarf of middle years with a completely shaved head that somehow only makes his most defining feature more magnificent — a truly spectacular dark handlebar moustache, waxed to perfect curled points, paired with a neat soul patch beneath his lip. It is the moustache of a man who has strong opinions about everything and is rarely wrong about any of them. His eyebrows are thick and expressive, dark to match the moustache, and his eyes are a warm brown — clever, alert, with a hint of amusement permanently lurking behind them. His face is broad and open, the kind that defaults to confidence rather than aggression. He looks like a man who has blown something up recently and considers it a success. Gundugar Herdtender, also known as Gundugar, is a stout and sturdy figure with broad shoulders and a robust build. He wields a shield and is equipped with a spike gauntlet, ready for combat. His alchemical expertise is evident as he carries various vials for throwing, including bombs and potions. He also carries a clan dagger, a satchel for holding rocks, and smithy’s repair tools.
During the Phaendar market festival, Gundugar showcased his skills at the archery range, successfully hitting targets. When Ironfang Legion attacked, he drew his shield and engaged in melee combat, counterattacking against foes. He utilized his alchemical bombs, throwing a bottle of lightning and other vials to damage enemies. Gundugar demonstrated tactical awareness by raising his shield to defend against incoming attacks while retaliating with strikes. After a skirmish, he suggested that The Party take healing potions and other valuable items to aid their efforts, reflecting a commitment to both combat and the well-being of his companions. He is known for carrying explosives and bombs, stating, "I blow shit up." Gundugar is recognized as connected to nature and responsible for caring for animals and the land. He possesses skills in crafting and nature-related tasks. During an encounter at Fender's Bridge, he hurled alchemical fire at the enemy line, demonstrating proficiency with alchemical substances. He engaged in quick alchemy, allowing him to create or manipulate alchemical items rapidly. In battle against Ironfang Legion, he effectively used fire against a swarm of wasps, showcasing his combat abilities. Gundugar contributed to securing the area and protecting refugees by gathering supplies and strategizing for survival. He led a crafting-and-nature group among the survivors, focusing on resource management and support for Main Camp. He is equipped with a javelin, a Quicksilver Mutagen, and bomber devices. His team constructed shelter for four people, and he reported an issue with the interface when attempting to equip his javelin. In preparation for combat, he announced his intention to drink his Quicksilver Mutagen and deployed a quick bomber while using bomber feet to avoid harming allies. He also stated plans to continue gathering food.

Gundugar examined a corpse in the woods and determined that Ironfang Legion had tortured the victim. His crew built shelters for Camp and later completed the remaining shelters. In Gristledown, Gundugar threw bombs and bottled lightning at Bloody Skeletons, which initially had little effect. During a cabin fight, Pilla the leopard bit Gundugar and held him in its jaws. Gundugar set Kellogg aflame and pressed the attack on the undead, later switching to an acid attack that dissolved one of the Bloody Skeletons. He suggested scouting and diversion tactics during the approach to Phaendar and used knowledge of Fahrak operations to assess their likely behavior. His group found another goat for Camp supplies, and he contributed some of his stored rations to the communal food. While tracking a lone Fahrak Scout, he drank a Quicksilver Mutagen, threw a long-range bomb, and used bombs and close-range attacks to pressure the foe, assisting The Party until the Hobgoblin was killed. During the ambush on a Hobgoblin patrol, Gundugar harried the front rank with bombs, used a fear bomb, and reported having level 3 bombs that deal increased damage.

Gundugar has engaged in multiple combat scenarios, utilizing quicksilver mutagens and potions to enhance his abilities. He has hurled bombs at enemies, effectively wounding xulgaths and Giant Monitor Lizards. He has also used Captive Alchemist's Fire in ambush situations and consumed healing potions to recover during fights. His use of mutagens has granted him increased speed and resilience in combat. He ignited a gas-filled room by lighting and throwing a torch. During a skeleton fight, he mixed and threw acid that dissolved a skeleton, then followed up with his clan dagger. He applied a quicksilver mutagen, which resulted in increased damage and a misfortune effect. He used bombs and a lightning vial to attack blighted foes, critically striking another with a thrown vial. He was blinded by a Lamplighter’s spell but later regained his sight. He used curatives on Bruneg and attacked a paralyzed Hobgoblin with bombs, splashing Goblin Dogs with thrown vials, and punched a Goblin Dog, smashing its head. He informed Bruneg that he would get a healing potion later.

Gundugar is a member of Camp known for his prior service involving explosives. He was cornered at Ramsgate, where he set off all his charges and later woke up downriver. He suggested building a still to boost Camp morale. He and his team recovered a stray sheep during the week. He stood watch with Bruneg’s group and, when Hobgoblin Mercenaries Tied To Maltheum attacked Cave Camp, he warned others to check for tracks. In the ensuing melee, he killed two Hobgoblin troopers, driving a blade through one’s heart, and confirmed no additional Hobgoblin Mercenaries Tied To Maltheum were present after the battle. He later hurled a Blight Bomb that killed the centaur York. Gundugar is a herd tender and an Alchemist. He remarked during the questioning of an Alchemist that a bite could make her like the Fugitive. In an encounter with an owlbear, he initially panicked and fled but later recovered and rejoined the fight. While on watch, he heard growling behind him, discovered Bruneg snoring, and noted that a solitary cherry tree was missing. Over the following week, his team continued to build Camp's goat herd.

Gundugar is the camp's craftsman and alchemical combatant known by name. At the burned clearing, The Party found several flasks that smelled of the alchemist's fire Gundugar prepares. Back at Camp, Gundugar’s crafters increased the livestock by one sheep, and Gundugar spent days working on bombs and spider-climb potions. During re-equipping, he handed Wren fire arrows. In the patrol fight, Gundugar drank a quicksilver mutagen, moved up, and critically hit a scout with alchemist’s fire, leaving the hobgoblin burning and bleeding. In the glen, Gundugar kicked Arsène awake to interrupt a fey’s sleep attack, sought the invisible pixie’s location, lobbed bombs into that space, and kept bombarding the pixie with alchemical attacks until it died. He examined dead Redcaps and found wounds from scythes and cold iron, concluding they had fought one another. He later spotted an older Redcap, joined the fight with his spear, and hurled it hard enough to leave her dying. He prepared fire to halt her recovery and the nearby Trollhound’s regeneration, ending the battle. Gundugar examined flayed Hobgoblin Mercenaries Tied To Maltheum and determined that one had bled to death after being skinned alive; he concluded the redcaps had tortured them for information, tried to conceal the damage, and then turned on one another. In the forge room, he drank a mutagen, set two stuffed bear constructs ablaze, smashed one apart, and reignited the other. Against the workshop korred, he threw alchemical bombs. In the throne room, he attacked Halk from range and then at close quarters before Vendel’s magic killed the korred warlord. Gundugar later helped bargain with the workshop korred for defenses and constructs.

Gundugar is knowledgeable in herbs and ritual formulas for crafting magical items. He created a magical spoon during three days of rest at the cave camp, capable of purifying and stretching up to eight gallons of food or liquid. During an attack by Canopy Trolls in the western forest, Gundugar consumed a Quicksilver Elixir and used directional bombs to throw fire. He killed the troll that was holding him and prevented other fire-struck trolls from regenerating. Gundugar also cleansed himself with fire during the battle. He traveled with Fangwood Six toward Fort Nunder and carried a shield. In the misty Lowland, he wounded the three-headed Chimera with fire and other attacks while the party fought it, until Finnetharyn finished the creature. At Fort Nunder, Gundugar understood the Jotun argument within the ruins. When trollhounds attacked, he opened with acid and fire, confirming that fire harmed them more effectively, then hurled a blast that caught several at once and caused the burning creatures to snap at nearby targets. Against the trolls inside, he drank a mutagen and sent fire through the crowded approach, kept bombarding the wounded trolls, and later hid behind his shield. One troll seized him, but his raised shield stopped its claw from striking.

Gundugar is a resourceful member of the party, skilled in identifying unusual equipment and utilizing fire magic in combat. He traveled with the party through a captured fort and surrounding wilderness. In the fort commander’s room, he identified a dagger as Dawnsilver and recognized the names of two Chernasardo Rangers on corridor plaques. He assisted in bringing a table into a trapped passage and dragged it back during their return journey. Gundugar used fire to strike a southern wooden guardian, reducing it to charred debris, and later attacked a northern guardian with fire before it was destroyed by the party. In the armory, he claimed a charm of acid resistance. At a fissure, Gundugar observed a giant beetle feeding on a Chernasardo ranger’s remains and crushed one beetle during the ensuing fight. After returning, he transferred protective runes from two spare suits of armor, took a spacious pouch from Norvi, and transferred runes from Arsène’s dagger to an adamantine starknife. He stated he could craft a perception-enhancing tattoo and manufacture several varieties of drugs for the hermit.

He gave the one-legged Cirieo Thessaddin an elixir. In the ghost’s Office, he spent about an hour reviewing the merchant’s Wine accounts, leading the ghost to set a selling price of 125 gold. When the atomies challenged the party, Gundugar declared the fort belonged to the rangers and ordered them to leave. During the fight, one atomie insulted and stabbed him; he later grabbed another and held it in place until Wren killed it. Against the axe-wielding Fey, Gundugar pulled out its second special white hair, kicked it, blocked its escape, and battered it at close range.
