The journey to confront Aldern Foxglove turned into a siege at a nearby farm.
- Fought undead emerging from the river while traveling toward Foxglove Manor; after a farmer reported that scarecrows were eating people and dogs following an investigation by local farmers, diverted to the farm.
- Found a farmhouse corpse with a seven-pointed star carved into its chest and a note to Ruby: “I will take the fever into you, my love. It shall be but the first of my gifts.” It was the second such note to her; the first was found at the Lumber Mill. Found the homeowner’s 2,400 copper pieces and noted his fixation on money resembled that of some earlier murder victims. A ghast intending to turn Ruby undead targeted Eliza instead because Ruby was absent, called her “the white-haired one,” and nearly killed her. Determined the encounter was a trap, suspected Aldern Foxglove organized the farm events, and acquired a key with a foxglove-shaped head.
- As a blizzard closed around the farmhouse, undead gathered outside, leaving minutes to prepare; barricaded doors and windows, warded doorways with religious symbols, and arranged furniture. River Hargreeve built a couch-and-chair barrier; Lucien rigged a rope-operated stair trap, then later set a spiked plank above a window with Esquik. Eliza treated Rasvantin Torvashti’s wounds.
- Held off the first ghoul wave as they battered shutters, doors, and barricades; Esquik shot one apart, River used thralls and shadow magic, and the others fought to hold the room. Some ghouls weakened crossing Rasvantin’s wards; one seized Eliza, but Rasvantin killed it and freed her. River, Rasvantin, and Eliza killed ghouls emerging from the chimney, where scratching continued after the upstairs sounds stopped. During a lull, River saw more creatures approaching cautiously, giving the party ten minutes to reinforce defenses; Esquik saw scarecrows coming from the cornfields, while Eliza noticed lights beyond them and heard horses. The Party debated whether the lights meant attackers or rescuers; the horses remained out of sight.
- Faced tougher-looking attackers who grabbed Esquik and knocked Rasvantin down; River and Ruby helped break the assault. Rasvantin and Lucien saw ghouls running near the farmhouse, away from something, pursued by mounted people with pitchforks and torches and Belor Hemlock. Belor Hemlock struck an enemy through a window, then jumped inside to join the fight. The Party and Belor Hemlock fought the remaining ghouls, and Ruby killed the last one. About a dozen guards arrived with local farmers and dealt with ghouls outside in groups. Belor Hemlock said he was glad to have saved the party for once; Eliza replied that he had missed the big one. Seeing corpses piled to the ceiling and River’s magic, Belor Hemlock told the party to clean up and explain what happened. The farmhouse remains surrounded by the aftermath of the attacks.
