He later focused his research on golems and binding living beings to them. Cerith Ferror is his daughter. The Party found his book in a bedroom at Thistletop, and Cerith recognized it before packing it away. Lyrie had studied under Max briefly in Magnimar and had stolen the book from a collector, not from Max. Lyrie had not seen Max for at least three years; they had parted badly, and she did not know where Max went afterward.
