She is impeccably mannered, impeccably dressed and impeccably careful about what she says to whom and in what company, qualities that make her an excellent partner for a man like Titus in the purely strategic sense while leaving most of Sandpoint uncertain about what she actually thinks about anything of consequence. Whether the composure is genuine equanimity, disciplined endurance or something more complicated is a question that the town has quietly debated without resolution, partly because Delarah has never given anyone enough unguarded access to answer it definitively, which may itself be the most telling thing about her.
