NPC overview

Bromli Alefist, also known as Bromli Alefist, is the very picture of a jolly, barrel-chested dwarf caught mid-revel. He's sprawled back on the ground as if he's just dropped where he stood, one arm thrown up to toast the room with a heavy wooden tankard bound in dark iron bands, the other resting lazily behind him. His build is broad and hearty—a thick torso and a proud, round belly spilling out from beneath an open robe, all of it carried with the easy comfort of someone who has never once been self-conscious about it. His head is bald and sun-weathered on top, marked with a dark circular sigil tattooed on his brow, but what he lacks up top he more than makes up for below: a magnificent flame-red beard, thick and glossy, gathered into fat braids and clasped through with rings of gold. The same coppery red runs through what hair remains at the sides of his head. His face is split by an enormous, eyes-shut grin, cheeks flushed ruddy with drink and laughter, every crease of it set in pure delight. He's dressed in loose, layered robes in muted greens, greys, and dusty tans—travel-worn and a little grimy, hanging open across the chest. A string of large, dark prayer-style beads loops around his neck and shoulder, and a coiled rope sash cinches his waist, weighted with a round medallion bearing an engraved character or symbol (echoed again on the face of his tankard). His forearms and one hand are wrapped in cloth bandages and inked with bold, dark tribal tattoos—circular and geometric patterns winding up from his knuckles. Baggy trousers and wrapped, sturdy footwear finish the look. The overall impression is a monk-brewer sort: weathered, tattooed, and devout in his own way, but far more interested in the next drink and a good laugh than in anything solemn.
Bromli Alefist was a Hellbreaker sent to travel with The Party to Saringallow. At Caden’s Keg, he declared that functioning required a hangover, called for more beer, climbed onto a table to dance, fell face-first, and kept drinking. He entered the tavern’s storytelling contest with a boastful account of suplexing enemies while Khar’gan shot flawless arrows, including an arrow pulled from his own backside. Bromli Alefist later left with a bearded woman and afterward acted as though the evening had gone extremely well, despite remembering little of it. He climbed into Ethran’s wagon and went straight to sleep. In Draymoor, he tried to enter the general store for more ale and told the confronting locals he was there to spend money on alcohol. At the ferry crossing, he dragged a zombie giant bat from the air, tripped it into the water, and held it there while Hugh finished it, later boasting that he had waterboarded a giant bat. Bromli Alefist enjoys drinking, flirting with women, and using nicknames as part of friendship. At the Saringallow safe house, he flirted with a dark-haired woman, who told him to be quiet. At the warehouse, he charged an attacker, pinned him, battered another foe, and untied Gertraud Mildenhall after the fight. Samantha later treated his injuries. On The River mission, Bromli Alefist served as bait, painted red to resemble a bloodied corpse. Once aboard the supply ship, he battered one sailor, chased down, and knocked unconscious the sailor who threw a bottle at him, and was rendered unconscious by Animated Armor before Samantha revived him. He rejoined the fight but struggled against the construct’s defenses. The armor was destroyed, and a linked magical blast erupted from below deck. Bromli Alefist was a member of the Hellbreakers party aboard the damaged, sinking ship. He secured cargo, repeatedly hauled crates overboard for recovery, and kept several small casks of ale. He delayed abandoning the wreck to salvage more supplies, then rushed to engage the crocodile attacking the rescued sailors. Bromli Alefist returned to Saringallow with The Group and traveled north to the Water Spout Inn. When loyalist militiamen attacked, Bromli Alefist smashed one down with a backhand and threatened the next. He later posed as a captured prisoner during The Group’s attempt to infiltrate Captain Bane’s force. Below Target Ship, an insidiator devil bound him in webs; Bromli Alefist tore free and rejoined the fight. A marine attacking from above cut him down, and Bromli Alefist succumbed to his wounds before he could be stabilized. He was a companion of The Party and the father of Kracka, who identified himself as Bromli Alefist’s bastard son. He died during a rescue, and Rhokrag placed metal in his pockets before throwing his body into the water. Rhograk instructed Bromli Alefist’s companions to inform Kracka of his death, as Bromli Alefist and Rhograk had never gotten along. Samantha later informed Kracka that Bromli Alefist had died earlier that day. Rhograk ordered the cell to lie low and mentioned he might visit a temple of Caden to pay for prayers for Bromli Alefist.
