Clearing With The Petrified Stump

Location overview

A small clearing contains a petrified stump, the remnant of a once-towering tree. Grass has been cleared around it, and discarded ritual candles and crystal shards lie beside a crack leading into a small underground hollow. Several devils stood around the stump and spotted an approaching party. The Party fought the devils and found ritual supplies and an imposing shield. Booted tracks around the stump, roughly a week old, indicated that several human-sized individuals had been there, but the tracks could not be followed from the clearing. The work at the stump appeared to be far smaller than the ritual described by the Sister of the Golden Erinys’ sister, possibly a practice attempt.
As one member of The Group treated wounds, six pairs of red eyes were spotted in bushes east of the clearing. Zagnub, a tall, deliberately unarmed goblin, emerged and offered to take The Group to his elders, who might know more about the Hellknight. He led them into the forest.
