About Bright Embers Orphanate

Location overview

A walled yard surrounds the Bright Embers Orphanate, a rectangular two-story building founded in 4700. The structure has unusual angles, with curtains covering the windows and the front door hanging ajar. The grounds contain stunted leafless trees, dying grass, and a chipped red seesaw. The orphanage is run by the Sisterhood of the Golden Arenas, an Asmodean order. Bright Embers Orphanate stood in Vordia and had housed nuns and children. The sisters were regarded locally as having done good work there after the Goblinblood Wars, though they had been strict. Following a visit from a Hellknight, the nuns rarely left, and The Last Two Children were adopted. After the sisters left and the last two orphans were supposedly adopted, an attic whisperer made its home in the building, which became haunted. Inside, haunts manifested in the mess hall and playroom, which were subsequently quieted. Upstairs, a lullaby-haunt and an attic whisperer attacked in a bedroom with decrepit beds; The Attic Whisperer was destroyed, and the western corridor doors slammed open. The party discovered a half-written letter, an unholy Asmodean Text, and a robe whose detachable belt could animate and bite with poison. The letter indicated that the sisters had gone to the Lucent Mission on a task for Asmodeus and that the remaining orphans had been sent away. The party reported the haunting and its evidence to Vordia’s authorities.
