Hellknights

The Hellknights are an order of grim, iron-disciplined enforcers who hold a single conviction above all else: that law and order must be upheld absolutely, no matter the cost in blood or mercy. Born in Cheliax and bound to its infernal hierarchy, they take the devils of Hell as their model — not as gods to worship, but as exemplars of unbending discipline, the merciless enforcement of contracts, and the cold machinery of order.

About Hellknights

Faction overview

The Hellknights are an order of grim, iron-disciplined enforcers who hold a single conviction above all else: that law and order must be upheld absolutely, no matter the cost in blood or mercy. Born in Cheliax and bound to its infernal hierarchy, they take the devils of Hell as their model — not as gods to worship, but as exemplars of unbending discipline, the merciless enforcement of contracts, and the cold machinery of order. A Hellknight masters their own fears by confronting fiends directly, then turns that hardened will against any who would spread chaos or defy the rule of law. The order is divided into several orders, each with its own paragon and philosophy: the Order of the Rack, zealous hunters of heretics and dissidents; the Order of the Nail, who once raised Citadel Altaerein near Breachill before departing for Korvosa; and the Order of the Godclaw at Citadel Dinyar, who venerate a pantheon of lawful deities and increasingly preach the virtues of a disciplined life to common folk.
To the people of Isger, the Hellknights are the boot of Cheliax made manifest. At the command of Her Infernal Majestrix Abrogail Thrune, loyalist knights of the Order of the Rack marched into Breachill to root out the Hellbreakers League and seize the warshards they were rumored to hoard — and when they found no rebels, they ruled the town through curfews, house arrests, and public executions all the same. Their execution of the Andoren envoy General Cormoth lit the fuse on open war, culminating in the Battle of Hellknight Hill, where Eagle Knights and Hellbreakers together routed the order and reclaimed the town. The Hellknights were defeated and driven from Breachill, leading to celebrations in the town, including a storytelling contest held in honor of those who expelled them. To a Hellbreaker, then, the Hellknight is the face of the enemy: tireless, lawful to the point of cruelty, and utterly certain of its own righteousness.
